R & D Magazine's Laboratory of the Year
1991 Special Mention

Along with housing all of APPI's business Research & Development activities, the facility was designed to accommodate expansion due to future growth or acquisitions with minimal disruption of ongoing operations. Subsequently, the design criteria dictated a laboratory plan that would create a professional environment for technicians, while also allowing multiple occupancy of lab units and permit flexibility for both expansions and/or changes in the work mix.  In addition to interaction, the paramount issue for the R&D facility was the consolidation of activities which were previously performed at multiple, widely separate locations. In order for this consolidation to be effective and efficient, adaptability and flexibility were imperative.

Research areas include Polymers, Fabrication, Plastic Fibers, Carbon Filters, Composite Testing, Materials Science, Physical Testing, Physical Properties Lab, Pan Polymer/Process Oil Lab, Fiber & Single Filament Testing, Xydar Resins/Amodel Torlon, Thermoplastic Systems Development, Pilot Plants, Microscopy, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Scanning & Transmitting Electron Microscopes and ESCA (Automatic Chemical Analysis). Construction cost on this facility is kept confidential out of respect for the client's request.
