EWA previously assisted with the Master Plan/Feasibility and Concept Study for a new Cancer Research Tower, connecting the existing hospital and the Moffitt Research Center. Located on the campus of the University of South Florida and connecting the existing hospital and the Research Center, the new facility will be comprised of research laboratories, laboratory support, animal research space, and offices. The overall building program also includes clinical space, significant public spaces, a large auditorium and a conference center. The research wing is designed to facilitate the addition of up to 60 new principal investigators over the next decade. Open-plan laboratory planning is being utilized to allow for a variety of laboratory configurations for future investigators, based upon their needs and program demands. To support this important research, a 25,000 sf barrier animal facility will be constructed. This state-of-the-art vivarium will enable researchers at the Center to begin to utilize transgenic mice in their studies. The 60 new laboratories and their associated support spaces surround a 4-story atrium which creates a collegiate, interactive space for the researchers and will include space at each laboratory floor for collaboration and informal gatherings. Core area functions include a flow cytometry lab, a pathology lab, virus labs, vaccine production facilities, combinatorial chemistry and centralized facilities such as glasswashing and freezer storage. |
