Heralded as an architectural masterpiece, the Center is home to the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Getty Grant Program, the Getty Conservation Institute, the Getty Research Institute and administrative offices for the J. Paul Getty Trust.

Serving the Museum, Conservation Institute and the Research Institute, laboratories and studios at the Center are located in three different buildings.  The project consisted of the programming and design for the laboratories and museum studios.

The Getty Conservation Institute is dedicated to the discipline of conservation science in order to develop processes and technologies for the preservation of artwork, antiquities, and materials. Located in the Center’s East Building, GCI workstations and labs are designed as open as functionally possible to enhance collaboration.

Museum studios clean, preserve and repair numerous types of art objects. The museum conservation studios include shop areas for metal/welding, woodworking, photo, paper and cloth conservation labs, watch/clock preservation, painting studios, paint spray booths with residue collection/exhaust, sophisticated radiographic rooms for x-ray analysis, and a 3,200 square feet environmentally controlled vault to store the Trust's extensive art and photographic collection.
