The Taiwan government has embarked upon a mission to develop a national research campus, the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI).  This multi-phased campus will encompass biomedical research facilities, conference centers, vivarium facilities, housing, hospitals, plus shops and other amenities.

Phase I is comprised of two laboratory buildings – consisting of 40,000 nsm each (Research Building and Core Facilities), Vivarium, and an Office/Administration Building.  Since specific lab users have not been identified, space allocation was based on a research group model. Each model consists of 6 people, one Principal Investigator and five staff. Each basic building will house 144 generic research groups.

Laboratory space is designed on a generic basis with a variety of support functions and core facilities. Core facilities include Molecular Biology, Flow Cytometry, Imaging & Modeling, DNA/Micro-Array, Microscopy, Virus Lab, Vaccine Production Lab, BSL-3 Lab and Chemical/HazMat Storage.
